Welcome to Fluid, an MA in costume design.

This project is built on wanting to uplift and explore a gender non-binary representation within the designing of costumes.

As a costume designer and a genderfluid person, I often experience feeling trapped within the gender binary. I study the artistic and designerly ways of creating garments that tell a story - and more specific - that tell a story beyond our gender-normative understandings. Through workshops and collaborations, I have created a full costume wardrobe for a dance performance with 5 dancers as well as a capsule collection of costume pieces for a Drag performer.

Fluid is the way I am working with my project, it is the way I create and the way I understand this world; as something fluid and in constant motion, always changing, always evolving.

In this project, I have explored ways of creating costumes that embrace the status quo in expressions of gender and identity. It’s built upon a curiosity about how gender and identity are portrayed through costume, how costume design can embrace the complexity of what is behind the costume and what that can do to the design process.
